Anthony Stokes has praised the initial impact that John Guidetti has made at Celtic since arriving on loan from Manchester City.

Anthony Stokes has hailed the impact that John Guidetti has had since arriving at Celtic.

Guidetti joined Celtic towards the back end of the summer transfer window and has immediately showed his quality up front.

The Swedish striker already has three goals to his name and Stokes has hailed the ability of the new striker at Parkhead.

"He’s a very intelligent player,” Stokes said to Celtic's official site. “He makes great runs off the ball. He’s a good all-round striker and has a bit of everything.

“I have enjoyed being around him, even in training. He’s a good lively lad and a bit of a character so he’s added a lot to the squad already.”

Guidetti was once considered as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, but he has struggled in recent times. The City striker has failed to make the breakthrough at the Etihad Stadium and, as a result, he has been farmed out on loan.

However, none of the moves seem to have worked out successfully and there was a sense that this move to Celtic was make or break.

He has started life there in fine style and looks one of the most talented strikers the club have had for some time. Now, he will be hoping to build on his early performances and Stokes's words are sure to boost his confidence further.

Stokes, himself, has found his chances more limited as a result of Guidetti's arrival, but that doesn't seem to be affecting their relationship negatively so far and the 26-year-old accepts that he will have to improve to keep his spot in the team.

"I have realised this year that I have work very hard and keep my form up to stay in the team," he said. "We have a lot of competition for places, particularly in the striking department.

“It will depend on my form and I just need to keep working hard and try and help the team as much as possible."
