United morning news: Serie A double deal linked; Rafael hails ‘brilliant’ teammates

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United defender Rafael has been speaking following his side’s 2-1 victory over West Ham United this weekend.

The Brazilian defender put in a considerably better shift than he managed at Leicester City last time out, playing a huge role in the victory.

Speaking to MUTV at the weekend, the right-back said, “I think we played brilliant football in the first half, apart from conceding from a set-piece.

“We could have scored more goals and I think the way we played in the first half is the way we have to play from now on.”

United went 2-0 up courtesy of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie before Diafra Sakho pulled a goal back for the visitors. But the hosts held out for the win and Rafael hailed their fighting spirit.

“You just have to fight for every ball and that’s what we did,” he added. “We defended as a team in the second half, everyone was brilliant.”

In other news, United have been linked with a move for Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna to solve their problems at the back.

The Mirror has picked up on reports from Italy which claim a fee in the region of £12million could be enough to sign the 26-year-old.

The same paper has picked up on claims from Spain that United could still make it a double swoop from the Italian champions by trying again for Arturo Vidal.

That particular rumour just will not go away, and is unlikely to until the club signs a world-class box-to-box midfielder.
