Compiled using footage of his gigs this summer, watch a new video by the UK soul singer nominated for four Mobos
When Sam Smith told the Guardian back in August that he wanted to be the “biggest-selling male pop star in the entire world,” it wasn’t the usual kind of empty, hyperbolic statement announced for the purpose of headline-grabbing and never to be achieved. So far this year the 22-year-old has won both the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll and the critics’ choice award at the Brit awards, his debut went into the UK charts at No 1 and the US charts at No 2 – the highest ever entry for a debut by a British singer – he’s performed and recorded tracks with soul icon Mary J Blige, not to mention the four-Mobo nominations announced last week, and all the while sustaining that impressively high quiff. World domination is well under way.
So what better way to cap off his 2014 than an obligatory tour compilation video? Shot throughout this summer’s festival season and tour dates, Restart features behind-the-scenes footage, live performances and most importantly, the king of clean-living light entertainment, Dermot O’Leary.
“Restart is one of my favourite tracks on the album and I really felt like I wanted to visualise it,” says Smith. “I had such an amazing time putting this video together, remembering some incredible moments from this year and also a recent trip with my team to Brighton this summer.”
