Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has today been preparing his side for what could turn out to be a must-win fixture in the Champions League, as an Etihad Stadium date with visiting AS Roma looms on Tuesday evening.
City need to bank points immediately, having lost to Bayern Munich in the opening fixture of the competition - a stark contrast in fortunes to Rudi Garcia's start with Roma, who slaughtered CKSA Moscow by a 5-1 score earlier in the month.
City are without creative midfielder Samir Nasri, centre back Matija Nastisic, Stefan Jovetic and midfielder Fernando, which could mean temporary summer recruit Frank Lampard - a vastly experienced campaigner in Europe from his illustrious career with Chelsea - could be called into action.
Lampard could have an on-pitch reunion with his former Blues team-mate Ashley Cole, as the left back joined Roma in the summer.
Pellegrini, meanwhile, will no doubt be devising tactics that will negate the talents of Mattia Destro, who scored from the half-way line during Roma's 2-0 win over Verona at the weekend - their fifth consecutive triumph in Serie A which keeps them at the head of the Serie A table, second only to Juventus due to an inferior goal difference to the Old Lady.
Other danger-men include Gervinho, a maligned winger from his days at Arsenal who has been galvanised by Garcia. The Ivory Coast international scored a brace during the CKSA rout.
Roma, though, will be without Kevin Strootman and Daniel de Rossi, as both players are injured.
