On this day: Wenger explains Higuain failure, Moyes admits United concerns

Arsene Wenger Big Coat

Stories involving Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all feature.

Another weekend of Premier League action is over and there is plenty for fans to chat about at work this morning.

Manchester United held out for a win while both derbies over the weekend ended in 1-1 draws. The focus now moves onto the Champions League games on the fixture list this week.

We’ve decided to take a look back at the stories grabbing the headlines on this day last year.

‘Wenger on failed Higuain bid’

Arsene Wenger revealed that Arsenal had been working on a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

The Argentine was strongly linked with a move to North London last summer but opted for Napoli in Serie A.

“We were working on two or three targets and he was one of them. It didn't come off in the end, that doesn't take anything away from his quality. Napoli took advantage of that at the right moment, it's more about timing as well,” said Wenger.

‘Moyes: We have problems everywhere’

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes revealed where he thought his side had problems; everywhere.

United lost at home to West Brom on the corresponding weekend of last season, which left the Scot under instant pressure.

“There were lots of things that disappointed me. I don’t think the midfield was just the one department where you’d say we were lacking. I think it would be unfair to say it was any [specific area]” said Moyes.

‘Sturridge plays down title hopes’

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge played down his team’s chances of winning the Premier League title.

The Reds established an early position near the top of the league, which they never gave up for the majority of the season.

“It's early days, take every day as it comes. Don't worry about the future, worry about the here and now,” he said on Sky Sports.
