Tottenham latest, Lamela 'never thought' of leaving, positives from Arsenal draw

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening

Tottenham playmaker Erik Lamela has said he never thought about leaving the club after a difficult first season at White Hart Lane, and following a transfer window where his future was the subject of much speculation this summer.

Lamela has shown signs of improvement under Mauricio Pochettino and seems determined to make this season a successful one.

In an interview with International Business Times, he said: "I never thought about leaving the club. There were many talks in December and at the end of the season because I wasn't playing but I knew that should I be physically fit I am going to have many chances to play. Today I am playing and but I still have to keep working."

At the weekend, Spurs got a creditable draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, drawing 1-1 with their fierce North London rivals.

Despite letting a lead slip, defender Jan Vertonghen was proud of the performance the back line put in, and has said himself and the new captain Younes Kaboul have an understanding with each other at the back.

He told the Tottenham website: “We have a good understanding, Younes and I, and we fit together well. We dealt with the attackers but as a team we can be happy.

“It was definitely a deserved point, even though we were 1-0 up quite close to the end, as Arsenal pressed us back. But we stuck together effectively and have come away with a draw.”

Christian Eriksen was equally positive with his comments to the Tottenham website, and also had a word or two of praise for the side's back line.

The midfielder said: “It’s just about pressing when you can, although we want to win the ball as high up the pitch as we can.

“If we look at the whole game we’re probably happy with a point. When you’re one goal in front you want to hold on, but unfortunately we couldn’t on this occasion.”
