Chelsea and Sporting Lisbon appear to be similar teams based on the stats from their first Champions League games.
Chelsea head off to Portugal to take on Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League hoping to produce a better performance than they managed against FC Schalke in their group opener.
The stats for Chelsea and Sporting from the first game are actually very similar with the immediate and obvious difference the number of attempts Sporting had in their game against Maribor.
On the one hand it suggests that Sporting are more creative but on the other, it suggests Chelsea have the better conversion rate as they scored their one goal from fewer attempts.
Chelsea are slightly ahead in terms of tackles and passes, which shouldn’t be a major surprise because Jose Mourinho likes his teams to keep the ball and work hard to win back possession when they don’t have it.
It looks like being a very tight game in Portugal, with Sporting likely to press early on due to their home advantage but it’s got all the hall marks of a Mourinho classic; a well earned points or win in a difficult European match away from home.
