Christian Benteke made his return to action for Aston Villa, playing 63 minutes in an under-21 fixture against Bolton Wanderers today, much to Villa fans' delight.
The front-man has been ruled out for a prolonged period of time after rupturing his Achilles back in April, but he is edging closer to fitness and played a starring role in the side's 3-0 win against Bolton's reserves today.
After training with the first-team squad for some time, he made his long-awaited return to action today, alongside the likes of Joe Cole, Jores Okore and Jack Grealish, and managed to grab a goal in the match.
Although the strike was from the penalty spot, the news that Benteke was on the scoresheet has seemingly delighted Villa fans and only gone to whet the appetite for his impending inclusion in their first-team squad even more.
It is thought that the Belgian may be back in the squad which takes on Manchester City this weekend.
In his absence, the side have been coping fairly well, moving into the top half of the Premier League table following a fine start, but Benteke remains their best player and having him back should serve as a major boost.
The 23-year-old is one of the most feared front-men in England and, on his day, he can prove to be a threat to any defence in the league.
His injury has been a big blow to the team, but Benteke has promised to come back better than ever and if he is true to his word then that can only be good news for fans of the Claret and Blue.
The news of his return was understandably greeted with great joy and Twitter was awash wish delighted Villa fans' comments. Below are some of the best.
