Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand has expressed his delight after scoring one of the goals in the Saints’ 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
The on-loan Chelsea defender has replaced Luke Shaw at St Mary’s and he has impressed to date, playing every single minute of Southampton’s league campaign.
Bertrand may be tasked with keeping balls out at one end, but he got in on the action at the opposite side of the field on Saturday, opening the scoring in the latest victory for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Bertrand drilled a low shot beneath QPR goalkeeper Robert Green to net in the 54th minute and, despite Charlie Austin’s impressive equaliser, fellow summer arrival Graziano Pelle scored the winner soon after.
The Southampton full-back has since taken to Twitter to write, “Happy to get my first goal of the season and for Southampton. But the most important thing is the win.”
It certainly is, with the south coast club currently second in the Premier League, just three points behind leaders Chelsea and two clear of reigning champions Manchester City.
