4 chances created: Chelsea star shines against Aston Villa

Chelsea inc Willian

After a poor display against Manchester City last weekend, Willian was back to his brilliant best against Aston Villa, grabbing a goal and an assist as Chelsea eased to a 3-0 victory in the Premier League.

It took just seven minutes for Jose Mourinho's side to break the deadlock when Willian laid the ball off to Oscar who neatly scored.

After being involved in the build-up for Chelsea's second, a bullet header by Diego Costa, Willian scored one himself.

Costa confused Philippe Senderos with his footwork before firing a low shot that was saved by Brad Guzan, but then poked in by the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder.

Willian accumulated 75 touches during the 90 minutes, by no means the highest total in Saturday's encounter, but he was Chelsea's most threatening player.

He recorded five shots in total, as he posed a constant threat to the Villa defence, two of which hit the target. Meanwhile, he further aided his side in the final third by fashioning four key passes.

In creative terms he was excellent, yet he also carried out his more basic duties with aplomb. He attempted 57 passes in total, 93% of which were accurate.

Defensively his display left plenty to desired, although this is unlikely to impact Mourinho's opinion of his performance. He failed in two attempted aerial duels and missed two tackles.

It was a much-needed man-of-the-match display from a player competing with an array of world-class stars for a starting berth in Chelsea's midfield. After last weekend's uninspiring display against City, this is just what the doctor ordered.
