Considered by the majority of Blues fans as a Chelsea legend, Lampard is now strutting his stuff on loan at Premier League champions Manchester City, after a move Wenger has not shied away from criticising.
Nevertheless, the Gunners boss feels Ramsey is a 'Lampard type,' as he is so attacking and clinical in the final third.
“You have to get him to start from the back. He is a Lampard type and, when you watch the picture again, who is in the box? Oh, my friend Aaron is there!" Wenger told reporters at a pre-match press conference.
Unlike the Manchester City man, however, Frenchman Wenger thinks Ramsey needs to get back to basics, especially if he is ever to enjoy a career as illustrious as the one Lampard did at Chelsea.
“I believe he felt a bit more pressure to score. You have always to come back to basics. What is my job? Midfielder, win the ball and give a good pass," the 64-year-old explained.
“He has a natural engine and a consequence of that is he will have chances but, if every time you play you think you have to score, and every time you want to be in the box, you forget a little bit about the basics of the job.
“He has a terrific engine and on the pitch he never hides. So when he sometimes makes a mistake, it is a spectacular one.
But Wenger added: "If you look at his overall contribution to the team it is always fantastic. I am fully confident that he is back.”
