Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo turned down a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Sevilla’s sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo is eyeing a post at Barcelona after rejecting a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Widely respected for the work he has done, the 46-year-old has caught the attentions of a number of leading European clubs with Premier League outfit Spurs believed to be at the forefront.
According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the North Londoners placed an offer on the table during the summer as owner Daniel Levy eyed a potential partnership with new boss Mauricio Pochettino.
“This summer there were clubs from England such as Tottenham who put an offer on the table to make Monchi their new sporting director, but he declined.” The report states.
Gaining the impetus and knowledge of the Sevilla hero would have been a major coup for Spurs given his impressive record in the transfer market over the past few seasons.
Monchi has overlooked the big-money sales of Alberto Moreno and Ivan Rakitic in the off-season, whilst previously he helped the club bring in a number of exciting stars such as Dani Alves, Seydou Keita and Luis Fabiano.
His time at Sevilla, however, appears to be drawing to a close as reports suggest that a move to White Hart Lane was rebuffed by his ambitions to move to the Nou Camp.
“Monchi has new challenges in mind and spent last year in London learning English and taking some courses – Barcelona though is his dream destination.”
