Carlo Ancelotti has given his view on the rumours surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has refuted rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo could be heading for a spectacular return to former club Manchester United.
The Portuguese wizard has remained affectionate towards the Red Devils, professing his love for his old club on a number of occasions.
Over the past few weeks, rumours have circulated that the 29-year-old was left unhappy by Madrid’s summer transfer activity and that he was contemplating his future at the club.
Carlo Ancelotti, however, spoke out on the situation in the build-up to his side’s weekend clash at Villarreal and labelled the United rumours in the media as baseless.
"I can't imagine a Madrid without Ronaldo. These reports make no sense. He is delighted to be at Madrid and the madridismo are thrilled with Cristiano.” The Italian boss said, quoted by the MEN.
"Right now he (Ronaldo) is without a doubt the best player in the world. To defend him is not easy and we are fortunate that he plays in our team showing a lot of hunger, character and personality.”
"He plays like a leader. We have to have him well physically and mentally because he is a player that wins you titles."
Despite Real Madrid’s early season struggles, the current Ballon d’Or holder has been on another planet in goalscoring terms – netting eight goals in his previous three matches,
Since making his world record move to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009, he has helped Madrid win La Liga once, the Copa Del Rey twice and fired the club towards its tenth Champions League crown last season.
