Former Gunners midfielder doubts Aston Villa can register a positive result
If Arsenal can beat Aston Villa then Chelsea certainly can.
That is the message former Gunners midfielder Paul Merson is sending in his weekly preview column for Sky Sports as the fan's favourite talks-up the "efficiency" of creative midfielder Francesc Fabregas and prolific nature of penalty-box striker Diego Costa.
"I know Aston Villa had a bug last week but you can’t see them getting anything away at Chelsea after they lost at home to Arsenal," said Merson.
Costa has had three more shots on target (11) in the league than Villa's entire playing roster (eight) thus far this season - and the former Atletico Madrid is already top of the goalscoring charts with seven, after just five match-days.
"Chelsea look to be very efficient this year with Fabregas and Costa going forward and it’s lucky Villa had a good start because they’ve got some horrible fixtures at the moment," he added, noting upcoming contests against the Blues later today, then Manchester City at home and Everton away.
"Villa fans can’t moan about what they’ve done so far and they now need to find a bit of consistency.
