Manchester United linked Ilkay Gundogan has suffered a further setback in his return from an injury spell which has now stretched 409 days.
The German midfielder was tipped to return to action for the Borussia Dortmund in mid-week but Jurgen Klopp has since confirmed the player is yet to return to full speed first team training.
“Due to slight muscle stiffness Ikay Gundogan only returns tomorrow to team training,” reports Bild.
“There will come a day when he returns but it still takes a moment,” said Klopp.
Dortmund need him back in action as soon as possible because they have been plagued by inconsistency over the start of the campaign.
Five Bundesliga matches have been played with two wins, one draw and two defeats so far and Gundogan’s organisation and discipline in the middle of the team would certainly be helpful.
The fact he seems to be so far behind a potential return when he was tipped to start the 2-2 draw against Stuttgart last week could be a big mental blow.
However, Dortmund showed a lot of faith to him when they gave him a new contract and if he can return and find form for BVB, they could be fending off January bids from Manchester United and other teams, which will give Klopp a different headache to contend with.
