Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino says that Arsenal's Calum Chambers is a 'great talent'.
The Spurs manager was speaking ahead of the North-London derby, which takes place tomorrow, but he was complementary rather than disparaging towards the Lilywhite's rivals.
Chambers and Pochettino know each-other well after working together at Southampton, where they both left this summer, and the Argentine clearly holds his former player in high regard.
“Calum is a great personality and has a great talent,” he said to the Daily Echo.
“He deserves his moment now because one year ago at the start of pre-season at Southampton he was playing in the development squad."
“And step by step he deserved to play and win his place in the first team."
“It is not only because he has talent he also has a great personality and character."
Chambers was brought to the Emirates this summer in a deal worth £16 million and he has settled into life with consummate ease.
The 19-year-old was expected to play a back-up role in the side, but he has been thrown in at the deep-end since his arrival and excelled.
Generally playing at centre-back, despite most his senior career at St. Mary's being spent at right-back, Chambers has fitted in nicely and has quickly established a reputation as one of the best youngsters in England.
He earned international recognition last month, winning his first England cap, and now he will be looking to continue his rapid development.
Chambers looks set to be handed a start tomorrow in the derby and it will be a massive game for the Gunners as they look to get their season back on track.
The side had lofty expectations going into the campaign and have fallen short so far, but a win in a fixture of this magnitude would be a major boost to the squad.
