Arsenal’s chances of winning the North London derby have been boosted by the return to fitness of star midfielder Mathieu Flamini.
The Frenchman has been struggling with a dead leg of late, but he is now in the frame to feature for the Gunners against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.
Flamini has been training with the rest of the Arsenal squad on Friday (see photo above).
During a pre-match press conference on Friday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that Flamini could play a role against Spurs.
‘Flamini is back in the squad and the long-term injuries are not back’, said the Frenchman.
It remains to be seen if Wenger includes the former AC Milan midfield enforcer in his starting line-up against Tottenham, but it looks that the 30-year-old will be on the substitutes’ bench at least.
Arsenal will head into the North London derby on the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Southampton in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday, but they eased past Aston Villa 3-0 at Villa Park in the Premier League last weekend.
