The latest Manchester United transfer news, views and rumours.

Nigel de Jong

AC Milan chief executive is confident of extending Nigel de Jong's contract at the Serie A club.

The Dutchman had been linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer.

But, when asked about De Jong and Abate’s contract talks, the Milan CEO said: “There is time. They won’t escape.”

Elsewhere, Tom Thorpe, Paddy McNair and Andreas Pereira have been pictured in training with the first team as they prepare to potentially play against West Ham United this weekend.

All three academy products are needed by United after a succession of injuries have left them rather short at the back.

Paul Scholes

Meanwhile, former Man United midfielder Paul Scholes has suggested Louis van Gaal's side got complacent during their 5-3 defeat at Leicester City last weekend.

"Last weekend showed that, for a number of our top clubs, nothing can be taken for granted," Scholes wrote in the Independent.

"Nigel Pearson set his Leicester team up to attack United. He chose three centre-forwards, which tells you that he wanted to score goals. Jamie Vardy and David Nugent covered a hell of a lot of ground that day.

"As a team, Leicester dealt with the influence of Daley Blind. Against Queen’s Park Rangers the previous week he had been able to dictate the game. Not this time."
