Gonzalo Higuain 'happy' in Napoli - no Liverpool move any time soon

The Argentina striker has been speaking about his current playing situation.

Liverpool may have been tipped with a move for Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain but the Argentine has declared himself 'happy' at Napoli.

According to reports, the Reds are prepared to fork out as much as £31 million to land the striker, who plays under former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

Higuain, however, says he is happy in Naples and believes any speculation and criticism has simpy been borne out of his side's poor recent form.

“I’m happy to play in Naples – it’s a fantastic city to play football,” he told reporters in Italy.

“As in any place, when you win, everyone is happy. When you don’t, people overreact. In this period, there are critics but it’s normal.

“I chose to come here, Naples is a wonderful city.”

After four Serie A games, Benitez's Napoli side are 10th in the table, having won once, drawn once and lost twice. The results have left the Spaniard under pressure and could see the likes of Higuain become available in January.

Whether Liverpool would actually bid for him is another matter, however, as the presence of Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert means there are already four strikers at Anfield.

Sturridge's recent injury troubles have left the Reds lacking a certain cutting edge in front of goal, though, so you never know in football...
