Leeds United face Brentford this weekend, with some of their players having a point to prove to the new man in charge.
The former Sturm Graz head coach has replaced caretaker manager Neil Redfearn, who impressed during his temporary spell in charge. But now a new man is at the helm, Leeds’ players will have to prove they deserve a starting spot under their new boss.
Here are three Leeds men with a point to prove against Brentford:
The midfielder had an exceptional game against Huddersfield last weekend, scoring one and setting up another in the 3-0 victory that proved to be Redfearn’s last match in charge. On his day, the 29-year-old is a fantastic player, but he needs to be consistent if Milanic is going to make him an integral part of the team.
Prior to last week’s match, Austin had not scored or set up a single goal this season, and while that is not his primary role in the team, he has now showed what he is capable of. The trick is to do it again…and again.
The on-loan Brazilian has had to wait patiently for his chance at Leeds, but with a new man in charge he could finally be given a shot in the Championship.
Adryan has spent the last two league games on the bench, and he is likely to start this weekend’s clash the same way, but do not be surprised if Milanic throws him on at some point and it is up to the youngster to seize that chance.
Despite starting the season as part of Leeds’ starting XI, Ajose was out of favour under Redfearn, not even in the match-day squad for the last five fixtures.
The former Manchester United youngster will be hoping for a fresh start under Milanic, but he will have watched the goal-scoring form of Souleymane Doukara and Mirco Antenucci and wondered if his chance was lost. He could well be back in the frame this weekend, and even it is only from the bench, he will have a point to prove, both to Milanic and to Redfearn.
