For an hour it seemed as though Nottingham Forest were about to pull off a memorable upset at White Hart Lane.
Their initial lead against Premier League side Tottenham was not the work of the XI which has propelled Forest to the top of the Championship, but a team made up of mostly second string players.
None of them impressed more than midfielder Ben Osborn, who came agonisingly close to scoring a first half wondergoal.
A dazzling run saw him waltz through the Spurs midfield and unleash a curling shot which beat Michel Vorm, only for the Forest man to see his shot hit the crossbar.
Osborn played all 90 minutes, and completed a higher percentage of his passes than any Forest midfielder, with 85 per cent.
His four successful dribbling attempts were as many as England internationals Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend managed between them for Tottenham.
Osborn also made five tackles, a figure matched by Spurs midfielders Benjamin Stambouli and Andros Townsend, but bettered by nobody.
At only 20, the midfielder has shown himself to be an excellent prospect, and while Ryan Mason rightly is grabbing the headlines, Osborn was a crossbar away from similar acclaim.
Here's a look at how Forest fans reacted on Twitter to his performance...
Forget Lennon and Townsend, best english midfielder on the pitch tonight was Ben Osborn. Different class tonight #nffc— James Jackson (@JamesJackson_94) September 24, 2014
Never so clear evidence of a return to #nffc values than tonight. Young Osborn was outstanding. Thank you Stuart Pearce.— David Payne (@TheBoxingWriter) September 24, 2014
#nffc second string did well last night. Osborn reminded me of a young Archie Gemmil— Mark Whawell (@MarkWhawell) September 25, 2014
Think the secret is out about Ben Osborn. We really need our good players to stop being good on the telly. #nffc— In The Top One (@InTheTopOne_) September 25, 2014
