Faustina Asprilla remains a cult hero at Newcastle United despite just being at St James' Park for two years between 1996 and 1998. He is best remembered for his hat-trick against Barcelona in a 3-2 win in the Champions League. His record in Europe for The Magpies was phenomenal with 9 goals in 11 games.
His eccentricity often saw him grab the headlines, and his crazy antics made him the original Mario Balotelli in his day. Affectionately known as 'Tino' by the Newcastle fans he recently made an appearance in the black and white stripes last year in a testimonial match for Steve Harper, when a Newcastle United team took on an AC Milan legends side.
Despite retiring in 2004, Tino is still making the headlines, with his latest business venture catching the eye. He has decided to start up his own business back in his homeland of Colombia. Asprilla is launching his own line of flavoured condoms in the hope it can reduce teenage pregnancies.
They will be sold under the brand name of 'Tino' and he has recommended the guava flavour 'as it is great for romancing'. The manufacturing of the product is already underway in China, and he has plans to expand from Colombia if things progress.
Speaking to a Colombian Radio Show called La FM he said “I think it’s a really cool idea. They’ll hopefully be launched with a campaign to prevent unplanned teenage pregnancies.”
“I’ll recommend the guava flavour condom,” Asprilla added. “When I was growing up, we had a guava tree in our garden and that’s a flavour and aroma that’s very good for romancing.”
Only time will tell as to whether Asprilla can rise to the top of the tree in the business world.
