After a goalless first half, it looked as if it could have been a difficult night for the Cup Holders but they managed to come through with a terrific second half display. Amongst the scorers were big names in Frank Lampard, Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko and Jesus Navas - but one young man who got on the scoresheet was Jose Angel Pozo - who has been compared to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi by some.
City fans seemed suitably impressed by what they saw from the teenager as he scored the sixth goal of the evening.
The 18-year-old was formerly part of the Real Madrid youth set up, and has impressed in under-21 games and in the UEFA Youth League for City so far this season.
Here is what a few City fans had to say on twitter - and it was overwhelmingly positive, though one tweet in particular voiced concern over his future:
Pozo looks absolutely class, so happy that he scored on his debut— Jacob (@exploitedyouth) September 25, 2014
Pozo is so highly rated that we will loan him and then he will be sold. -.- That's what we do to our youngsters.— Usama (@Usama_Mcfc) September 25, 2014
Reckon were gonna see a lot more of Pozo this year. Looked a tidy little player last night #mcfc— Sam Walker (@_SamWalkerr) September 25, 2014
