Why was Spurs boss Pochettino watching MK Dons in the Capital One Cup?

MK Dons

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to rival Liverpool for the signature of one of League One's hottest properties.

There was a surprise guest at stadium:mk when MK Dons beat Manchester United 4-0 in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Indeed, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino graced the stands in Milton Keynes for front-row seats to a spectacle all non-United supporters would have loved to see first hand. And the League One side have since won their third-round tie in the competition, beating Bradford City 2-0.

But why was he there?

According to the Daily Mail, the Argentine was scouting Dele Alli, MK Dons' 18-year-old talent that has long been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Alli has scored six in 11 and one of League One's hottest properties could be available for £10 million in January.

It is Liverpool, though, that have been most heavily linked with the midfielder, having reportedly had a £3.5m bid rejected for him in the summer.

Spurs could rival their interest now, with Pochettino being impressed with what he saw during his scouting trip to stadium:mk. German champions Bayern Munich, however, are also said to be interested.

Back in the Premier League, Tottenham travel across north London to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday evening, although a tough Capital One Cup tie against Championship leaders Nottingham Forest awaits them first, with Stuart Pearce's men visiting White Hart Lane tonight.
