Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has praised the club’s forwards in the build-up to Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.
Paul Lambert’s side came back to Earth with a bump last weekend when they lost 3-0 to Arsenal, but they have the chance to prove their early season form was not simply an anomaly when they travel to the league leaders.
Villa are currently third in the table, three points behind Jose Mourinho’s side, and Guzan believes his club has the attackers to get one over their next opponents.
“Chelsea have a top defence and a top goalkeeper,” the USA international told the Lichfield Mercury, “but they have obviously still conceded goals this season.
“With the strike-force that we have, there’s no doubt in my mind that we can cause them problems and ask some very good questions.”
Villa certainly have the forward players to cause issues at Stamford Bridge, but it could be Guzan and his defensive teammates who play the bigger part. After all, Lambert’s side has scored just four league goals this season and they have relied on their excellent record at the back to ensure that has been enough to secure 10 points to date.
There is no doubt it will take a huge team effort for Villa to come away with anything from Stamford Bridge, but they have already done just that at Anfield this season, so who is to say it will not happen again?
