United’s forgotten summer arrival means teenage transfer blow is no big deal

Manchester United have been linked with one young goalkeeper but they only recently signed another.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for 15-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar.

The Belgian is currently signed to Anderlecht’s Youth Academy but his father has revealed that a number of Premier League clubs have shown an interest in his son.

Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad in an interview later published by Inside Futbol, Ratko Svilar said, “He was at Chelsea (on trial). And Manchester United also enquired. Everyone wants him.”

But before United fans – and supporters of any other club for that matter – get too excited, Svilar senior moved to quell the speculation.

“We already have an agreement with Anderlecht, even though he can’t sign a contract until his 16th birthday.”

So while that may come as a disappointment to some United fans, the simple fact is Svilar is not a priority. Not only because of the presence of David de Gea but also because the club did sign a goalkeeper this summer – even if the deal may have been lost in the excitement of another six.

Vanja Milinkovic signed for United back in August, although he will remain on loan at FK Vojvodina this season.

The recently-turned 17-year-old has already been capped for Serbia’s under-19s and he has made six appearances for Vojvodina’s senior side, keeping two clean-sheets in the process.

Milinokovic’s arrival at Old Trafford means missing out on Svilar is not such a bad thing, especially when you consider that De Gea is still only 23 himself.

If the Spaniard signs a new long-term deal at United he could ultimately remain at the club well into his thirties, leaving Milinkovic to develop into a quality ‘keeper in his own right.
