New signing: It's difficult to get into this West Ham team

Diego Poyet admits he is finding chances tough to come by at West Ham.

Despite being a much-hailed summer addition, Diego Poyet has barely got started yet at West Ham.

The midfielder was a summer signing after his Charlton Athletic contract expired, and is the son of former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet, currently Sunderland manager.

To date, 19-year-old Poyet has played only seven minutes of Premier League football, as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace a month ago.

The teenager  is hoping however that he can help out over the coming weeks particularly after an injury to fellow new boy Cheikou Kouyate.

He told West Ham's website: ""It's been difficult to get into the team because we have signed a few players and we've got a very good squad, as everyone can tell. I'm fine, training hard and making sure that I'm ready for when I get my chance.

"Obviously, it was very sad to see Cheikhou get injured and I was talking to him on Tuesday to try to help him to keep calm and positive. I hope he is back as soon as possible.

"If there is a place available and I get his place, then I will stay the same, work hard every day and do what I can."
