Steven Gerrard has praised the Liverpool youngsters on show in the League Cup game against Middlesbrough on Instagram.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was always going to make changes to his starting line-up, with 17-year-old Jordan Rossiter starting and scoring on his senior debut.
The Reds ground out an eventual 14-13 win on penalties, with another youth product, Suso, coming off the bench in extra time to score with his first effort on goal.
Suso is a more experience product of the Liverpool youth system but it was nonetheless important for him to have an impact and play well in front of the first team boss.
Gerrard suggested Rossiter was the star of the show publishing the picture above through his Insta account and it will be interesting to see whether he features more for the first team over the rest of the season.
“Great to see the young lads doing well last night #academy,” wrote Gerrard to go with the picture.
He did well in central midfield against an established and experienced Championship side and he should take plenty from the game as he goes back to the Liverpool under-21 side and under-19 side competing in multiple competitions this season.
