Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has been speaking about his new AC Milan teammate Fernando Torres.
The Spanish international arrived at the San Siro on loan this summer, and he has already scored for his new club in a 2-2 draw with Empoli.
Speaking to Fifa’s official website, Essien was asked how he expected Torres to do after making the switch from Stamford Bridge, and the Ghanaian was effusive in his praise.
“I really hope he does well for Milan and for himself because he’s a top striker and we’ll benefit from his goals,” Essien said.
“He’s a hard worker both in games and in training and that can also serve him well at Milan. One thing Milan can expect to see is 100 per cent all the time from him. I’m convinced we’ll see lots of goals from Fernando.”
The 30-year-old had hit a wall at Chelsea, and his record of just 45 goals in 172 appearances spoke of a player who needed to move on for the good of his career.
The way Diego Costa has begun his life at Chelsea speaks volumes for how far Torres had slipped following his move from Liverpool, but the Spaniard still has innate ability and Essien for one appears to believe he can get back to his best having made the move to Milan.
