Liverpool won a dramatic penalty shoot-out to seal their place in the next round of the League Cup.

Brendan Rodgers will be pleased that Liverpool are in the next round of the League Cup but he probably won’t be pleased with the nature of the victory against Middlesbrough.

Liverpool were level at 2-2 with the Championship side before one of the longest penalty shoot-outs you are likely to see this season, with the Reds eventually prevailing 14-13 at Anfield.

Rodgers handed a debut to 17-year-old Jordan Rossiter who scored on his senior debut after a mistake from the Middlesbrough goalkeeper, who failed to deal with Rossiter’s shot on goal.

Suso then came off the bench to put Liverpool ahead with his first shot of the game before a late penalty from Middlesbrough allowed them to force the game into a spot-kick situation which Liverpool won.

Liverpool’s focus will now turn to the Merseyside derby against Everton this weekend as they look to recover from a defeat to West Ham United last weekend.

Here are some of the best pictures from the game last night.
