Derby boss on Liverpool's 18-year-old star: He'll get better & better

Jordon Ibe put in a superb performance in his first start for the Rams last night.

Derby head coach Steve McClaren has heaped praise on Jordon Ibe after the 18-year-old started his first game for the Championship side last night.

The Liverpool loanee took part in the Rams' 2-0 win over Reading in the Capital One Cup and delivered a stunning performance.

Ibe dazzled as he beat his man time and again and also hit the crossbar with a superb strike.

The encouraging performance has left Derby boss McClaren in awe - and the former England coach thinks Ibe is 'going to get better and better.'

"Jordon Ibe started a game and was fantastic," McClaren told reporters.

“And Jordon is someone who, when they pick the ball up, you don’t know what’s going to happen.

“He’s a threat and considering he has just joined us, he did his work defensively discipline-wise but, going forward, he has great pace and he is going to get better and better.”

The 18-year-old spent some of last season on loan at Birmingham City and featured in Liverpool's pre-season campaign before joining Derby County on loan.

Ibe had previously made the odd substitute appearance but last night was his first start and many picked him as their man of the match for the Rams.
