Arsenal's injury prone midfielder Abou Diaby has revealed he wanted to be a basketball player growing up.
The Frenchman stands tall on the football field at 6 ft 3 in, but would not necessarily be one of the giants had he made it to the NBA, with the average height a staggering 6 ft 7.
Diaby made the comments in Arsenal's matchday programme on Tuesday evening, commenting:
"Basketball was my first sport. I wanted to be a basketball player when I was young. It was my dream when I was six years old and I can still remember the United States 'Dream Team' from the 1992 Olympics.
"That was what I wanted to do but I turned to football because my older brother was playing football and he was very good at it."
Diaby has gone onto play for one of England's top teams, and represent his country, but his career will always be tinged with disappointment unless he can flip the script now.
The 28-year-old has suffered a succession of minor and major injuries, and is yet to feature in the Premier League this season.
He did make his return in the Capital One Cup in midweek, with manager Arsene Wenger insisting he believes the has the capability to become a successful defensive midfielder.
