Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden has been speaking about his first time playing at the Emirates Stadium.
The 19-year-old centre-back played in the Capital One Cup against Southampton on Tuesday evening, and while the Gunners lost 2-1 to an impressive Saints side, the teenager enjoyed the experience.
In an interview with Arsenal’s official website, Hayden said, “Despite the result, it was obviously fantastic to play at the Emirates.
“It’s the first time I’ve played in front of a home crowd which was good. I’ve been on the bench a few times so it was good to finally get on the pitch.”
Arsenal went ahead courtesy of another goal from summer signing Alexis Sanchez, but the visitors hit back through a Dusan Tadic penalty and a beauty from Nathaniel Clyne, leaving Arsenal with one less trophy to fight for this season.
Given the fact that Arsene Wenger has only three senior centre-backs to call on at the moment, Hayden may find himself granted more chances in the future if further injuries or suspensions take their toll; and the player certainly wants more of the same having experienced first-team action.
“It’s a great starter, a great first taste and you want more of it," he added. "That’s the aim; you want to be playing at the highest level of professional football that you can.”
He is certainly saying all the right things; the question is, can he blossom into a future Arsenal star?
