Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has been linked with a move to Liverpool in several places, which is about as likely as Vincent Kompany deciding to pack his bags and head over to Old Trafford.
Hart is City and England’s number one and has even been tipped for a new contract by the Manchester Evening News which suggests there is nothing to the baseless speculation.
Willy Caballero was signed from Malaga in the summer but there’s no indication that Manuel Pellegrini is thinking of removing Hart as the club’s number one and pushing him to the subs bench.
In the same way that top ‘keeper Michel Vorm has to wait for a chance at Tottenham behind Hugo Lloris, Caballero must wait for a chance at Manchester City.
You have to question just why it is Hart would want to leave a club where he’s enjoyed such success in recent years.
Two Premier League titles have been backed by FA Cup and League Cup silverware, which has created a very contemporary era of success at the Etihad and Hart is a vital component of that.
You also have to question the logic from Liverpool’s side of things and the fact that Simon Mignolet is their established number one.
He was their number one in a Premier League campaign last season where the Reds very nearly beat Manchester City to the title.
If Hart moves to Anfield, is Brendan Rodgers the sort of man who will instantly drop Mignolet to the bench to accommodate England’s best goalkeeper?
This rumour seems to have started based on City’s apparent reluctance to offer heart a new long term contract.
However, his deal doesn’t expire until the end of next season so there’s no rush.
It’s been a priority for Manchester City to address the contracts of key players in other positions and City could well choose to improve Hart’s contract towards the end of or at the end of the season.
Rubbish Rating: It’s not going to happen.
