Arsenal legend Robert Pires flew to India on Monday morning and landed later that night (local time).
The former France international winger recently came out of retirement to feature in the Indian Super League.
The 40-year-old has been snapped up by FC Goa as their marquee signing for the tournament which will start in October.
Pires has been looking forward to his Indian adventure for the past few days and took to social media to express his delight at flying to the Asian country on Monday morning.
On his arrival at the Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, Pires was pleasantly surprised by the number of fans waiting to greet him.
The 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner, who last played professionally for Aston Villa in 2011, took to social networking site Twitter to express his delight at a very warm reception.
Football fans in India were overjoyed to see Pires in the flesh and could not contain their excitement at the prospect of watching one of the greatest players in the world feature in the ISL.
