The matches are coming thick and fast with the League Cup back on the fixture list for this evening and tomorrow night.
It’s the first chance for some teams to cash in on poor results last weekend and a great chance for younger and fringe players to grab attention as they fight for more regular first team football.
We’ve looked back at this day last year to see which stories were making headlines.
‘Sagna’s gift to Arsenal’
Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna described his goal against Stoke City as a gift to the team.
The French international headed in a Mesut Ozil free kick as the German got off to a great start in his Arsenal career.
“It's like a gift for the team. When I was injured, they helped me a lot and as long as I can help them, it's good for me,” he told the club’s website.
‘Sakho eyes PSG return’
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho dropped a huge hint that he’d be going back to Paris Saint-Germain at a later point in his career.
The Reds shelled out an initial £15 million to sign the player from the French giants, as Brendan Rodgers sought ways to improve his back four.
“I'm very proud to come here tonight. I remember when I was young, I was up there, there in the stands and watched PSG play - My story with PSG isn't over yet,” he said on his return to say goodbye to PSG.
‘Giggs lays into official’
Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs laid into fourth official Michael Oliver as the side lost at Manchester City.
United went down 4-1 in the derby and Giggs launched a verbal attack on the fourth official during the game after overly physical defending from Matija Nastasic.
“Get a grip of him. Man and up and do your job!” Giggs was reported to have yelled.
