Liverpool morning news, team news ahead of Boro clash, Rossiter to get his chance

A selection of the latest news surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning.

Liverpool may hand a debut to young midfielder Jordan Rossiter in tonight's League Cup match against Middlesbrough at Anfield.

The Reds have something of an injury crisis in the middle of the park with Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho now both nursing knocks, as Joe Allen and Emre Can were already sidelined.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “There will be some young players involved in the squad. Obviously there are a number of young boys who have been up at Melwood training and working with us.

“Like we’ve seen with other young players, the kids need the chance, they need the opportunity. If that comes for one of them on Tuesday night then we hope they can take it.”

The Daily Mail is reporting that Rickie Lambert will be handed his first start this evening after making the move from Southampton in the summer. So far he has only featured off the bench for his boyhood club

Captain Steven Gerrard is likely to be rested for the tie according to the Echo, and Rodgers has defended his skipper after he came in for some criticism for his form of late.

He's quoted in the Daily Mirror: "I have no concerns. He's a brilliant player for us."
