Sunderland and Stoke City meet in one of the all-Premier League ties of the Capital One Cup last 32.
The Black Cats are coming off a 0-0 draw with Burnley and need a result to kick start their season which has been slow to get going so far. Sunderland's miraculous survival last season was largely down to gaining momentum from a cup run, and manager Gus Poyet will be hoping for similar tonight.
Poyet has made a number of changes from the weekend game, but the likes of Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson continue to be key parts of the side, whilst Sebastian Coates makes his first appearance for the club since his deadline day loan move from Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Stoke are also coming off a draw having been held to a 2-2 result against Queens Park Rangers this weekend. Manager Mark Hughes isn't under any immediate pressure, but much like Sunderland, needs a result to get his team heading in the right direction having lost all momentum from their 1-0 win over Manchester City.
Jack Butland starts in goal with Asmir Begovic rested, whilst former Barcelona defender Marc Muniesa starts at left back for the Potters as they travel to the North East tonight.
