Arsenal drop League Cup selection hints on Instagram

Arsenal have hinted that David Ospina and Abou Diaby are in line to start in the League Cup game against Southampton this evening.

Arsenal have dropped a team selection hint ahead of the League Cup game against Southampton this evening.

Arsene Wenger is expected to make several changes to his team, protecting players for the North London derby this weekend.

The Gunners boss could install David Ospina in goal, resting Wojciech Szczesny and that’s the exact question that the club posted to fans this morning on Instagram ahead of the game.

“Are we going to see David #Ospina debut tonight in #AFCvSFC in the #CapitalOneCup? #Arsenal #afc #coyg #coyr #Gooners #Gunners,” said the club’s official account with the above picture.

Ospina signed in the summer on a long term contract from Nice. He was exceptional during the World Cup with Colombia and his been professional in his patience as he’s waited for a chance at the club.

Szczesny has earned the number one spot at Arsenal by right over a long period of time but a good performance from Ospina this evening, and on any other occasions he gets to play this season, could convince Wenger to make a change between the sticks.

Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal GK 11 6 5 450
Brad Guzan Aston Villa GK 10 4 5 450
Joe Hart Man City GK 9 6 5 450

It won’t be an easy task because the Pole has already proven to be competitive this season in a number of areas against some of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Consistency and patience are the two values Ospina needs to have plenty of this season.

The Gunners have also hinted that Abou Diaby could start this evening after appearances for the under-21 side to help improve his match fitness.

"Maybe we'll see Abou #Diaby tonight in #AFCvSFC. Would be great to see him in the #Arsenal team again. #afc #coyg #Gooners #Gunners," reads the caption for the above picture.

Arsene Wenger has praised Diaby's mental strength for the way he's kept going during a difficult spell where he's been routinely injured, unable to train and unable to play.

Here's to hoping he pulls through the match this evening with flying colours.
