As Manchester United fell to a humiliating defeat away at Leicester City yesterday, on loan star Nani was preparing to take on Gil Vicente with current side Sporting Lisbon.
The United winger scored for Sporting in the Champions League last week and backed that up with a great strike in the Portuguese league as Sporting secured a comfortable 4-0 away win.
It will be interesting to see whether Nani can force his way back into the reckoning next season if the rest of his loan spell in Portugal proves to be as successful as how it’s started.
Some United fans will point out that Nani has had several chances at the club already, with van Gaal’s decision to send him on loan, despite his signing of a five-year contract last season, evidence that the Dutchman has already made his mind up over the winger.
Nani’s position at the club (permanently) has obviously been threatened by the arrival of Angel Di Maria. However, there is space and opportunity for Nani to make a slot on the right hand side his own over the next couple of seasons.
If he can produce similar strikes in United colours to the one below, Old Trafford fans will be happy. Skip to around 23 seconds for his goal.
