Predicted Liverpool XI to play Middlesbrough - Seven changes for Rodgers

Here's the side Liverpool could take into the League Cup game against Middlesbrough.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be looking for a big reaction from his side heading into the League Cup game against Middlesbrough.

The Reds come off the back of a 3-1 defeat at West Ham United in the Premier League and the boss could leave out several first team players, providing some fringe stars with the chance to impress.

Here’s the side the boss might go with.

GK – Brad Jones

Has been a good and reliable servant for the club. He won’t put the defence under pressure and is a safe option.

RB – Javi Manquillo

With Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan both carrying injuries, Manquillo could be asked to continue at right-back.

CB – Kolo Toure

Toure is a solid and experienced option to have coming into the back four. He won’t make many errors this season.

CB – Martin Skrtel

Rodgers may choose to keep Skrtel in the side as he looks to increase his match fitness after a spell out with injury.

LB – Jose Enrique

Enrique needs to try and put pressure on Alberto Moreno at left-back. He won’t get too many chances and needs to take advantage of this one.

CM – Lucas

A good player to have in the side because of the experience he provides in a much changed team.

CM – Adam Lallana

Lallana is capable of playing furthest forward in central midfield, behind the main striker.

RCM – Suso

He may be staring at a future away from the club but he could come into the team for this match on the right hand side of a diamond.

LCM – Lazar Markovic

Experienced on the left and a good player to have on that side of the diamond, drifting out wide to provide the width and get balls into the box.

ST – Fabio Borini

Struggled to have an impact on the game against West Ham. Rodgers could show him a vote of confidence, which could have the effect of inspiring him to play well.

ST – Rickie Lambert

Lambert is a good player in these sorts of games against lower league opposition. He has the experience of playing against good defences from the Championship and should relish the chance.
