A late Frank Lampard goal gave Manchester City a share of the points against Chelsea on Sunday.
The loan signing came off the bench to score an 85th-minute equaliser, robbing his former side of their 100 per cent start to the new campaign.
Andre Schurrle had put the visitors ahead with just 19 minutes of normal-time remaining, but Lampard had the final say, refusing to celebrate after his goal kept the reigning champions within touching distance of the side most believe are their closest challengers this time round.
Five points now separate Chelsea at the top of the table and City in sixth, but the season is long and it was the hosts’ refusal to give up that bodes well for the months ahead.
Surprisingly given their start to the season, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas had a relatively quiet game, with Eden Hazard setting up Schurrle for what looked like being the match-winner.
