Paloma Faith scores first No 1, guesting on Sigma's track Changing

‘I’ve done three albums so far so it just goes to show that if you hang in there, something’s got to give at some point,’ says Faith of her track with the drum’n’bass duo

Paloma Faith has achieved her first No 1 single, as a guest vocalist on someone else’s song. Sigma’s Changing, which features Faith, sold more than 100,000 copies in its first week, becoming the drum’n’bass duo’s second chart-topper in less than six months.

“I’ve still got to push to get my own Paloma Faith No 1,” Faith, 33, told the Official Charts company. “I’ve done three albums so far so it just goes to show that if you hang in there, something’s got to give at some point!”

So far, the singles from Faith’s recent album have reached only No 6 and No 10. Sigma, by contrast, scored a No 1 back in April: Nobody To Love received platinum sales certificates in Australia and the UK. “We never thought we’d get in the charts to be honest so to have two No 1s is just unbelievable,” Sigma’s Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie said in a statement. “Hopefully we’ll be back with another one for you very soon!”

Sigma’s success sends Calvin Harris’s Blame and Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz’s Prayer In C to No 2 and No 3, respectively, while Professor Green’s song Lullaby is new at No 4. Although Sam Smith’s I’m Not The Only One slipped out of the top five, Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off hangs on at No 5.

On the album chart, two new records take the top spots: he Script’s No Sound Without Silence becomes their third UK No 1, while Barbra Streisand’s duets album, Partners, debuts at No 2. Here too, Smith has slipped, from No 1 to No 3, followed by two albums titled x: Chris Brown’s newest, at No 4, and Ed Sheeran’s steady summer seller, at No 5.
