United supporters were far from impressed with the 24-year-old's display at Leicester...
Manchester United's 5-3 defeat at Leicester City on Sunday was not a game to be remembered for its defensive prowess.
United, in particular, toiled at the back as Rafael and Tyler Blackett conceded penalties, Marcos Rojo was run ragged down the left-hand side and Jonny Evans came off injured after half an hour.
But it was another defender - Evans' replacement at centre-back - that drew the most ire from United fans after the game. Indeed, Chris Smalling is not a very popular man in Manchester at the moment.
The 24-year-old has struggled for form recently, although Arsenal are rumoured to still be interested in his signature, and yesterday's performance at the King Power Stadium hardly did anything for Smalling's floundering reputation.
The most frustrating thing for Man United fans is that their side were 3-1 up against the Foxes and in total control. From then on, however, they simply capitulated - and supporters were rather disappointed with Smalling in particular.
One fan claimed that he runs like he has 'a piano on his back,' while another said he is 'a Championship defender at best.' Here's a roundup of what United fans were saying about the centre-back after the 5-3 loss...
Gonna be conceding plenty more goals if we have to rely on Chris Smalling!Hes a championship defender at best!#MUFC— Barry Sullivan (@b8sully) September 21, 2014
