Leeds United fans have reacted with mixed views on the appointment of Darko Milanic as the club's next manager.
Darko Milanic will be the man guiding Leeds United on their quest back to the Premier League, signalling the end of the Neil Redfearn’s time in temporary charge of the side.
Redfearn had been the favourite at one stage to land the job on a permanent basis but Massimo Cellino has made the popular decision to leave him where he is, in charge of the academy.
Redfearn’s spell as caretaker boss has seen the side achieve three wins and a draw, which helped to cover over a poor start to the season, which left the Whites lingering near the foot of the table.
The momentum that Redfearn has created makes Milanic’s job slightly easier, as there’s positive feeling around Elland Road as a new era is just about to begin under a foreign coach.
Milanic will be a worry for some Leeds fans who don’t know a lot about him, especially as his former side Sturm Graz finished fifth in his first season at the club and have lost four of their first five this season.
However, he had great success in Slovenian football winning four league titles with Maribor who are currently plying their trade in the Champions League so he brings a winning mentality into the club.
Leeds are in a great position on 13 points after eight games. A win puts them within touching distance of the play-off places and the side is only five points away from the top of the table.
Milanic has signed a two-year deal which suggests that owner Cellino is willing to give him time to stamp his authority on the club, hopefully removing the possibility of another period where Leeds are forced to play a patch of the season without a permanent boss.
Here’s what Leeds United fans have made of the appointment of their new manager.
Very happy with Milanic's appointment. Would still like to see Redders play some sort of role with the first team #lufc— ThePositiveLeedsFan (@PositiveLufcFan) September 22, 2014
Happy to see milanic's preferred formation is 4-2-3-1 should work well with all the attacking options we now have— Craig knowlson (@Casklufc) September 21, 2014
Happy with Milanic. Hope he carries on where Redfearn left off. Supposedly defensive minded. Hope not #lufc— Terrace Dandy (@TerraceDandy) September 21, 2014
Don't worry fellow Leeds fans, Cellino will already have told Milanic (spelling) how and what system to play...... ;)— Tommy (@TommyLamps) September 22, 2014
Milanic needs to go in, chat with Redfearn who knows these players well and simply carry on from Saturday! Same brand of football #lufc— Jordan Carter (@JordanCarter10) September 22, 2014
the only thing i'm glad about with Milanic being appointed is that Redfearn can't get sacked if he were to lose a couple of games. #lufc— Colin Robson (@79cer) September 22, 2014
Wanted Redfearn... Right worrying what that journalist wrote about Milanic's style but it's only one persons view at least #lufc— Cal (@CallumNorth96) September 22, 2014
for all those whining about the kind of football we will be playing under milanic cellino will have a major say in that #lufc— topman65 (@baldyman1965) September 22, 2014
Cellino bought players to play a certain style and it's beginning to work. Milanic is hardly gonna change it now so why the hysteria #LUFC— markcally (@markcally8) September 22, 2014
