This Blackburn player is the difference-maker, says Fulham star

Jordan Rhodes of Blackburn Rovers

Fulham youngster Dan Burn has expressed his disappointment at the Cottagers defeat to Blackburn Rovers, naming Jordan Rhodes as the difference-maker.

22-year-old Burn has made four appearances for the West Londoners this season, but has failed to prevent their slide to the bottom of the Championship table.

Having impressed during loan spells with Yeovil and Birmingham in recent years, the central defender got rushed into the Cottagers first-team set-up for their Premier League campaign last season, drawing the plaudits despite their relegation.

Burn’s most recent appearance came on Saturday, when Fulham fell to a further 1-0 defeat at home. Despite the loss, the Cottagers impressed, and managed to concede just once during the game - despite playing half the game with 10 men following Shaun Hutchinson’s dismissal.

Speaking to the official Fulham website, Burn revealed that the Cottagers effort should have deserved more.

He said: “We felt again, that the level of us putting the effort in was always there.

"Performance wise, I think, there were times that we did put the ball down very well. We felt a lot more organised than we had in the other games.

"But, it was just one of those things.”

Fulham appear to be on an endless run, with no idea of when victory may finally be achieved, and Burn feels that Blackcurn were fortuitous to score a winner, with the talented Jordan Rhodes picking up the ball after a couple of deflections.

He continued: “I mean, the goal took two deflections before it lands to Rhodes, and he’s knocked it in before I’ve had a chance to get near him.

“It’s just frustrating really.”

Burn praised Rhodes’s ability in the Championship, with his impact not felt in games until he inevitably scores.

“You don’t see him [Rhodes] a lot during the game, but then he pops up and scores four or five goals. Every time I’ve played against him he seems to have scored.

“I don’t think he did a lot during the game, I thought [Rudy] Gestede was more of a threat, but that’s why he is paid the big money - he scores the goals.”

Rhodes signed a contract extension with Blackburn during the summer to keep him at the club until 2019. Having turned down numerous moves to the Premier League, Rovers fans will be delighted that someone of his talent is remaining at their club for the near future.
