Manchester City and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw with each other at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, Jose Mourinho’s side took the lead on 71 minutes when Andre Schurrle found the target after coming on as a second-half substitute.
City were a man down at that stage, having seen defender Pablo Zabaleta sent off following a tussle with Diego Costa.
However, Manuel Pellegrini’s side scored the equaliser five minutes from full time through Frank Lampard.
The former England international midfielder is a Chelsea legend and was released by the Blues at the end of last season.
Now on loan at City from New York City FC until January, the 36-year-old came off the bench against Chelsea to score a beautiful goal.
Lampard refused to celebrate after scoring the goal against the club who he holds dear to his heart, and Chelsea’s travelling supporters showed their acknowledgement.
After the match, Chelsea legends Didier Drogba and John Terry paid tribute to Lampard. The former Ivory Coast international striker posted the following photo on Instagram along with the message; ‘This man... Showed again why he's my idol!!! True gentleman true leader true professional true scorer true blue!!! Good luck to you Legend!!!!!’
Meanwhile, Terry wrote: ‘It felt strange playing against Lamps today and seeing him in a Man City shirt,Unbelievable reception the Chelsea fans gave to a true Legend today that has Chelsea in is heart forever, I really hope Lamps gets the opportunity to receive that reception at the Bridge one day. Good point today that keeps us 3 points clear at the top of the premier league’.
Eden Hazard and Schurrle also took to social media after the match. While the Belgium international winger posted a photo on Instagram along with the message ‘Great goal my friend @andreschuerrle ... Thanks for the support’, the German forward used the same picture to thank for the assist.
