Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has confirmed that he will be back in first team training with the club today after a foot injury.
The player posted 'Back to Manchester tonight #ready #training #tomorrow' on Instagram ahead of his return.
The Belgian was strongly linked with a move away from United in the summer but a foot injury prevented his chances of a deal going through before the close of the summer transfer window.
He’s made just one appearance for the club in the Premier League this season and the nature of United’s spending in the summer has created speculation over whether Fellaini can still feature in the side.
Daley Blind has come in and provided a defensive element to midfield, while van Gaal has added firepower up front.
However, he gives United a different edge with his height and physical presence, which could have come in useful as the team started to leak goals against Leicester City yesterday.
Unfortunately for the Belgian, should he impress in training, it’s difficult to see where he’s going to get a game so his aim will be to make an impact off the bench.
United are out of the League Cup and don’t play any European football, which limits the number of games that Fellaini could feature in.
There is the option of under-21 football but it’s unclear how far along in his return he is, but that could be a good platform for him to increase his match fitness and get some form of game time.
