Arsenal’s return to form in their 3-0 destruction of Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday has surprised many.
It was not the win for the Gunners in the Premier League clash that surprised many football fans – it was the manner in which they won it.
The North London club headed into the match on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Germany in the Champions League on Tuesday.
That loss saw Arsenal’s run of games without a win in all competitions go to three, while Villa were coming on the back of a 1-0 shock defeat of Liverpool at Anfield.
However, it was Arsenal who dominated the proceedings and picked up the three points, thanks to three goals in the space of five minutes in the first half.
Ozil, who opened the scoring for the visitors against Villa, has now revealed how manager Wenger had prepared the players for the clash.
‘We knew exactly what strengths we would have’, the Germany international playmaker told Arsenal’s official website. ‘We analysed Aston Villa before the game and knew how they would play...
‘We played a bit differently, in our more usual system. I think that we were a bit better, a bit more organised and in the end that led to our success. When you look at the game, we dominated it and put them under pressure from the start’.
It was all preparations then for Arsenal, something that they will need for the rest of the season.
Arsenal are back in action on Tuesday when they welcome Southampton to the Emirates Stadium for the third round of the League Cup.
