The 26-year old has started all but one of Forest’s games this season, as Stuart Pearce’s men have continued their unbeaten run into September, leaving them atop the Championship table.
Having progressed through the Academy of Premier League giants Chelsea - for whom the central defender made four competitive appearances - Mancienne spent spells on loan with QPR and Wolves, before leaving West London for Hamburg. After a three season stay in the Bundesliga, the defender returned to England, signing a three-year deal with Forest, joining as one of a number of summer arrivals as the Reds look to secure a return to the top flight.
He was voted as man of the match during his debut for the Reds - a 2-0 victory over Blackpool - before being sent off during a League Cup tie against Tranmere. Having missed one Championship game through suspension, the towering defender has appeared in every other fixture, impressing critics and fans alike.
His performance was no different during Saturday’s stalemate at Millwall, claiming the man of the match award as Forest returned to the pinnacle of the Championship table.
|Position||Match||Mins Played||Blocks||Successful Tackles||Successful Clearances||Duels Won||Successful Interceptions|
|Michael Mancienne||DF||Millwall vs Forest||90||1||1||21||10||2|
As can be seen, during his man of the match performance, Mancienne completed at least one of every defensive action during his 90 minutes on the pitch, with an incredible 21 clearances as Millwall dominated proceedings at the Den.
He won 10 duels, including one tackle, and completed one block and two interceptions. No other player in the game completed as many defensive actions as the 26-year old, with just two others reaching double figures despite the overly defensive display.
Mancienne’s performance was a continuation of his impressive displays that have characterised his season. Despite all the praise being thrown on the attacking talents signed during the summer - with Michail Antonio and Britt Assombalonga drawing the plaudits - the keen defensive skills of Mancienne have been the basis for the series of strong performances that have seen Forest dominate the table early in this Championship season.
